Van sliding door not closing properly: causes and checks
A sliding door that sticks, rattles or will not latch does not always need complete replacement. Dirt, worn rollers, a damaged track, poor alignment or a faulty lock can cause similar symptoms. Start with a safe visual inspection and never force the door.
Start with the track and rollers
Clean the track and check for dents, corrosion, loose fixings and damaged rollers. Do not lift or remove a heavy van door without suitable equipment.
Resistance at one point often suggests track or alignment damage; play and sagging may point to rollers or guides.
Check the lock, seals and alignment
Inspect the striker, handle, cables, central locking and door-closed switch. A door can latch mechanically while the vehicle still receives the wrong electrical signal.
The door should sit evenly in the aperture. Loose or distorted seals can interfere, but adjustment should not hide structural damage.
When to consider a complete door
Severe distortion, corrosion or several failed components can make a complete used door more practical. Compare generation, body length, side, solid or glazed design, track, wiring and OE number.
Have the locking and alignment checked professionally after installation.
